Pathways

Your Future. Tutorials, University, Careers & Life after Trinity

The Sixth Form team at Trinity aim to support students as they make their choices for further education or the world of work. Whichever route they decide to choose, we are here to guide and advise the best possible options most suited to their needs and aspirations.

We spend our 8:30 to 9.00 am daily form tutorial sessions to guide students through their future career choices and help them develop into independent learners.

Year 12

We run weekly sessions helping you develop the learning and self-evaluation skills required to succeed in both your sixth form studies and in life after Trinity We run twice weekly sessions looking at your general knowledge, current affairs and topics that arouse debate. This helps your critical thinking skills, your communication skills and confidence to share your views in a clear, concise and respectful manner, all key for interviews for University and employment and in tutorials once you are there. We take part in weekly acts of reflection and worship as part of the whole school Trinity Together focus. At the end of year 12 we start your UCAS and employment journey.

Year 13

In year 13 we help you write your personal statements, apply for student finance and manage your UCAS offers. This is all done during your 8:30 tutorials.

What are your options after Trinity?

University

The most up to date information about courses and in particular, entry requirements can be found on the UCAS website. There are specific parents’ pages that will help you to support your son or daughter.

Apprenticeships:

Apprenticeships are now available up to degree level and beyond. An apprenticeship is a job with training, meaning you can earn money whilst you gain a nationally recognised qualification.

There are several benefits to opting for an apprenticeship.

  • Earning a salary and paid holiday
  • Excellent progression opportunities and the option to complete a degree whilst you train.
  • Increased future earning potential.

University:

University is still one of the most popular destinations for our students, but it is not always he right choice for all students.  There is a lot of information out there to help students decide whether university is right for them, and if it is, which one to go to.  Please use the links above to help you make informed choices with your child.

One of the main concerns for many parents is the cost of studying at University.  There is plenty of support available and this should not put you off encouraging your child to go to university

There are two types of student finance:

Tuition Fee Loan

The university or college sets your tuition fee, and the loan is paid directly to them. It must be paid back but only once you reach a certain pay threshold. If you’re a full-time student, you can get up to £9,250. If you’re studying an accelerated degree course, you could get up to £11,100.

Maintenance Loan (for living costs)
